Translation

2 Therefore, after he heard that they were present, he came down he spoke [1] with them. Those present were amazed at his youthfulness [2] and composure, even if there was such great haste to apprehend such an old man as this. So he immediately ordered that something be placed before them to eat and to drink at that time [3] - as much as they desired, so that they might give to him an hour that he might pray fearlessly. [4]


[1] διελέχθη (διαλέγομαι) to discuss or converse (BAGD, 185).

[2] Compare with Germanikos in §3.1. Both are referred to as ἡλικίαν. The true strength of the martyr then must not be in the physical age of his body, but in the Lord who strengthens us in our weakness.

[3] ὥρᾳ or hour.

[4] ἀδεῶς without fear or disturbance (BAGD, 16; see also LSJ).
